Morning Sixpack – Day 2 of the Derek Chauvin murder trial
1 Day 2 of the Derek Chauvin murder trial
Two key witnesses were called yesterday in the murder of George Floyd trial. Prosecutors called an EMT/firefighter witness who said that the police wanted nothing to do with her offer to assist.
They also brought in the early hero of the case, another witness who has practiced martial arts and offered his opinion on the use of force by Chauvin. He claims it was lethal force.
Which is kind of hard to disprove, as the force used was clearly lethal.
I mean, it killed George Floyd. This witness took zero shit from the Minneapolis police officers on the scene, even calling 911 on them and ultimately talking to their supervising sergeant.

2 The Biden admin is serious AF about alternative energy.
Good on them!
WASHINGTON — The offshore wind industry is getting a major boost from the Biden administration as the White House aims to reinvigorate a potential source of renewable, emissions-free electricity that has never fully taken off in the United States.
As part of a government-wide effort announced Monday, the White House set a new target to deploy enough offshore windmills to power millions of American homes — 30 gigawatts — by 2030.
NBC News
They're going to build a wind farm in the ocean off the coast of New York and New Jersey.
To accelerate offshore wind growth, the Energy Department plans to make $3 billion in funding available through its loan guarantee program, which will also target equipment suppliers and development of transmission for power generated from offshore wind.
Bravo!
3 Parler has some ‘splainin' to do!
Apparently, Parler turned over inciteful posts made on its platform to the FBI prior to the January 6 insurrection against the US government.
They noted in a public statement that any public posts made on Parler could have been reported by anyone, while at the same time stating that they protected their users' right to free speech.
Freedom of speech. LOL
4 Some COVID-19 good news!
Well, maybe.
Preliminary findings of a study conducted by Israeli health authorities show there is no coronavirus variant currently in the country that is resistant to vaccines, Channel 12 reported Sunday evening.
Ynet
This is good but it's certainly not definitive. Here in the US, some COVID-19 variants represent up to 52 percent of known infections. I don't know how many we've vaccinated compared to Israel. IF they've vaccinated 80 to 90 percent or more, then we have hope that the vaccines we have here will be effective in guarding against getting and transmitting any of the variants.
And that's a good thing!
5 “Grahambo”
LOL. What my former US House Representative Eric Swalwell called Lindsey Graham after the good old southern boy said, “I own an AR-15. If there's a natural disaster in South Carolina where the cops can't protect my neighborhood, my house will be the last one that the gang will come to, because I can defend myself.”
Sure, buddy.
6 Diversity at the Fed?
Um, no.
In the latest episode of, “Well, duh!” we found that the Federal Reserve is made up of a bunch of old white dudes.
Well, we didn't find this out. Alex Hickey at Morning Brew did all the hard work in putting the pieces together.
(Speaking of Morning Brew, you should sign up for their newsletter. It rocks.)
And if you're a Person of Color, it's quite discouraging, especially if you wanted to be a fat cat banker.
HINT: You won't be.
Examples:
- Of the 12 reserve bank presidents, 2 aren't white.
- Of the 12 members of the board of directors, 71 percent are white, 21 percent are black, and fewer than 5 percent are Hispanic.
- Only 2 of the 12 reserve bank presidents are women.
I bet you didn't expect anything different.
