DNI Pick Avril Haines Testifies In Senate Panel Confirmation Hearing : Biden Transition Updates : NPR 2Avril Haines, President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee for director of national intelligence, opened her confirmation hearing Tuesday morning with an implicit criticism of President Trump’s management of the country’s vast intelligence network.

“When it comes to intelligence,” Haines said in her opening statement, “there is simply no place for politics, ever.”

As questioning began, both the Republican acting chairman, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, and the Democratic vice chairman, Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, said they viewed China as the key geopolitical adversary of the United States.
