Giuliani releases statement distancing Trump campaign from lawyer Sidney Powell 2WASHINGTON – The president’s legal team was thrown into tumult Sunday when two Trump attorneys – Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis – released a statement abruptly distancing the campaign from a third attorney, Sidney Powell.

Giuliani, Ellis and Powell all appeared together at a news conference Thursday, when they made a range of baseless accusations about the integrity of the election. Powell in particular has been vocal in lobbing some of the most convoluted claims, alleging a conspiracy that involved “communist money,” the late Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez and an algorithm favoring Democrats.

But the mother of three lost both jobs in March because of the pandemic and now is facing eviction. The Honduran immigrant got help from a local church to pay part of July’s rent but was still hundreds of dollars short and is now awaiting a three-day notice to vacate the apartment where she lives with her children. She has no idea how she will meet her August rent. “Right now, I have nothing,” said Yanez, who briefly got her bar job back when the establishment reopened, but lost it again when she and her 4-year-old daughter contracted the virus in June and had to quarantine. Nearly 60 years after its first store opened — and three months after filing for bankruptcy — the company announced Tuesday that it wants to close all retail operations “as soon as reasonably possible.” The explosion in online shopping, intense competition from larger chains and the coronavirus pandemic “are requiring us to wind down,” Robert Riesbeck, Pier 1’s chief executive and chief financial officer, said in a statement. “This decision follows months of working to identify a buyer who would continue to operate our business going forward,” Riesbeck said.
